Handforged wire-wrapped copper pendant |
Today's feature goes to Lirimaer Designs, AKA, Anastasia, and her unique copper jewelry.
Jewelry making is a new endeavor for Anastasia, having only started in 2010 after the birth of her daughter. Her first love was polymer clay, and she used many various techniques for her modeling. Faux enamel was her favorite, but now that she has picked up wire, she's completely hooked. She loves using copper for its, "wonderful earthy colour after it is antiqued."
Anastasia is inspired by boho-chic and art nouveau, but occasionally she'll also add a gothic or modern touch. Boho-chic is, "a style of female fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences...Many elements of boho-chic became popular in the late 1960s and some date back much further, being associated, for example, with pre-Raphaelite women of mid to late 19th century." Art nouveau is, "an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied art that were most popular during 1890-1910." It was popularized by Liberty & Co., a department store in London. "It was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants but also in curved lines." Wire-Wrapped Earrings with Coral Flower |
A great example of the art nouveau style is shown in her Wire Wrapped Earrings with Coral Flower (shown left). It demonstrates the mix of nature in the flowers and coral, and gorgeous curving lines from which they delicately hang. Anastasia says about her piece, "these earrings are my favorite creation. A little reminder of Summer, these earrings were made with warmth. Inspired by Frida Kahlo, I hope one can feel it when looking at them."
Soft and bold, powerful and elegant, colorful and subdued; Anastasia turns her visions into beautiful creations that would treasured in any collection.
